COURSE OVERVIEW
Across Europe, educators and coordinators are reimagining how schools can prepare learners to face environmental and social challenges. This course aligns with European Green Deal priorities and the UN Sustainable Development Goals by equipping schools with strategies that strengthen quality education, well-being, and civic responsibility. It supports institutions in embedding sustainability into teaching practice, creating a measurable and lasting impact on both learners and communities.
For teachers, this course is a journey into meaningful action. Through hands-on workshops and collaboration with peers from across Europe, participants will explore creative, interdisciplinary ways to connect global issues with local solutions. They’ll discover how to nurture critical thinking, empathy, and environmental responsibility — helping students become changemakers who can design a better tomorrow.

Format: 5 days, 25 hours in the classroom (60 minutes) ≈30 teaching hours (45 minutes)

Target group: ECEC (pre-primary), primary, lower and upper secondary education, VET (IVET/CVET), post-secondary non-tertiary education, adult education (adult learning and continuing education providers), school leaders/support staff, non-formal learning professionals and community-learning professionals

Module 03 – Sustainability in Everyday Life
Simple actions to reduce ecological footprints at home and school. Exploring sustainable choices in energy, food, and consumption habits. Inspiring students through personal examples of sustainable living.
Module 04 – Climate Dynamics and Environmental Challenges
Understand how our planet’s climate systems work and what’s causing today’s environmental changes. Explore classroom-friendly ways to inspire students to take small actions for a sustainable future.
Module 05 – Data-Driven and Value-Based Decisions for a Sustainable Tomorrow
Learn the importance of collecting and analyzing data to measure progress. Use data insights to make informed decisions for sustainability efforts.
Module 06 – Well-Being for a Sustainable Future
Understand how caring for people’s mental, physical, and social well-being connects to caring for the planet. Explore how inclusion, empathy, and social responsibility help build healthier and more sustainable communities.
Module 07 –Sustainable Teaching and Learning Practice
Explore ways to embed sustainability principles across diverse subjects.
Apply practical methods that encourage systems thinking and long-term responsibility.
Module 08 – Developing Student-Led Sustainability Projects
Guide students to identify local challenges and propose solutions. Foster creativity and problem-solving through project-based learning.
Module 09 – Becoming Changemakers and Goal Setting and Active Citizenship
Empower teachers and students to become sustainability ‘goalkeepers.’ Create actionable to-do lists aligned with global and local goals in a democratic setting and encourage active citizenship.
Module 10 – Turning Knowledge into Action
Equip participants with skills to inspire change in their communities. Plan initiatives for immediate implementation post-course.

Learning Outcomes
After the course, participants will be able to:
- Know and understand the term sustainability in the world today within different areas.
- Be aware of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their connection to education.
- Understand how to create, facilitate, and evaluate projects focusing on sustainability with students.
- Promote the development of students in areas that affect our actions in the area of sustainability and gain techniques and methods to develop them.
- Understand the importance of individual responsibility and values in our daily lives and responsible decision-making.
- Collaborate on projects with other participants and reflect critically on topics of Sustainable Development.
- Generate ready‐to‐use materials and methods to improve educational practices in daily school practice, considering the promotion of sustainability and SDGs.
